This project is the outcome of the “Our Rights, Our Communities” project. It is the unique model of community-based advocacy replicable within Scottish refugee communities. It will spread the good “peer support” practice and empower other new Scots. It will put the needs of New Scots Women at the heart and head of the struggle for equality.
The women [New Scots—asylum seekers and refugees in Scotland] who attended the advocacy training will advocate for other women in the daily issues they face. The outcome is that New Scots will be at the forefront of delivering anti-racist and equality work rather than having equality done for them.
We are pleased to announce that his project is funded by ‘The New Scots’ fund. However, we are looking for opportunities to continue funding this project going forward. Funds put towards this Unity Sisters project go towards training sessions in advocacy skills and leadership training, as well as running costs such as travel expenses and essential childcare.
